Title: Contractor Responsibilities for English Language Learner Literacy Coach - Ruidoso Middle School
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
- K-8 Teaching Certification
- Reading Endorsement and/or Evidence of Literacy Expertise
- Bachelor's Degree
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Applicants should be well versed in balanced literacy with the ability to model effective read-aloud, shared reading, and guided reading.
- Applicants should be well versed in writing instruction as delivered through mini-lessons and a writer’s workshop model using the 6 +1 traits of writing for both mini-lessons and rubric assessment
- Knowledgeable and well-read in effective reading and writing practices by field experts
- Personal experience with diffentiated instruction through small group delivery in a one teacher classroom and the ability to coach other teachers in this model
- Experience with the 3-Tiered model of intervention providing specifics on Tier I and Tier II intervention in the general education classroom
- Ability to design and conduct professional trainings in connection to literacy
- Expertise in at least two of the following: Literacy in the Content Areas; Technology; English Language Learners; Writing Curriculum; Integrated Curriculum; Using data to plan and drive instruction
- Ability to establish/maintain a professional, collaborative relationship with colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to manage professional time
- Ability to assist with collecting and analyzing data for problem-solving and coaching (conducting interviews, observations, and assessments)
- Ability to provide specific feedback to a teacher for improving instructional skills and strategies
- Ability to provide systems-level consultation to address school-wide or district-wide concerns and be able to work effectively with a team to problem solve, formulate action plans, and implement plans
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed to help plan and support District and School Literacy Functions such as Literacy events, EPSS teams, SAT support, SAC support, and other duties as assigned
General Description of Duties:
- General Summary The ELL Literacy Coach conducts practical, research-based, job-embedded professional development to support implementation of best practices for English language learners.
- The person in this position builds capacity in classroom teachers across content areas by co-teaching and debriefing, modeling lessons, co-planning, reflecting, and providing resources to improve student learning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and conduct professional development for teachers, instructional assistants, and administrators regarding instructional strategies and best practices for English language learners.
- Coach and support teachers in planning and delivering differentiated core instruction for English language learners.
- In collaboration with classroom teachers, analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings with ELL staff and content-area teachers to plan and share successful instructional practices and ensure continuous improvement.
- Build strong relationships with teachers and contribute to a school culture that recognizes collaboration as an asset.
- Provide leadership and guidance in culturally responsive teaching.
- Collaborate regularly with other ELL Coaches and the District Bilingual Coordinator to sustain systematic and systemic best practices throughout the district.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance job performance and knowledge in language acquisition, literacy development, culturally responsive teaching, coaching skills, and adult learning.
- Provide expertise and support in the development, implementation, and revision of ELL curriculum.
- Assist with the selection of textbooks, instructional materials, and instructional resources for the ELL program.
- Assist with the implementation of state and local assessments for English language learners.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
