Position:

Social Worker/Behavior Specialist__White Mountain Elementary

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid New Mexico Licensure in School Social work
  • Familiarity with classroom based strategies related to managing and addressing behavioral concerns

     

  • Ability to work with changing priorities, regulations and deadlines

     

  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and to recommend necessary action

     

  • Effective staff and public relations skills

     

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

     

  • Effective skills in planning and organization

     

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective consulting working relationships with administrators, staff, students and parents

 

 

Prepare at risk student reporting submittals for White Mountain Elementary and coordinate at risk student reporting submittals district wide.  The Behavior Specialist provides consultation to tier 1,2, and 3 teams for behavioral, environmental, and instructional support to develop strategies and interventions to maximize student achievement in their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).  Also, work with staff developing and integrating social emotional learning into curriculum.

                                   When necessary, connect and refer students and their families to community resources.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Identify and direct Behavioral Health priorities for the district and development
  • Provide leadership in guiding development of policy and procedures related to behavior for students with disabilities
  • Work with special education staffing developing and integrating social emotional learning into the curriculum
  • Provide individual and classroom consults to provide recommendations addressing behavioral concerns
  • Consult with teachers to develop targeted interventions for students when the school teams need to explore alternative strategies
  • Assist teachers in identifying and addressing student academic and behavioral needs
  • Conduct functional behavioral assessments and positive behavior intervention plans, including data collection, interviews and observations
  • Provide follow up support to school based staff on the training, implementation, and evaluation of positive behavior intervention plans
  • Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialist, social workers and other professionals to develop Individual Educational programs designed to promote students’ educational, physical and social development
  • Meet and confer with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress, determine priorities for their children based on their needs, provide guidance in using community resources, and teach skills for dealing with student’s impairments.
