Position:

6th-8th Grade Career Exploration Teacher - Ruidoso Middle School

Qualifications:

  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid New Mexico Public Education Department teaching license appropriate for the position.
  • Candidates holding a K-8 Elementary License, Middle Level License, Secondary License, School Counselor License, Special Education License, Specialty Area License, or applicable CTE license that meets NMPED assignment requirements are encouraged to apply.
  • Successful experience working with middle school students.
  • Knowledge of career and technical education (CTE), career pathways, and workforce readiness preferred.
  • Ability to integrate technology into instruction.
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students and families.
  • Strong organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively as part of a professional learning community

Responsibilities:

  • Teach Career Exploration to students in grades 6-8.
  • Guide students in identifying personal interests, strengths, aptitudes, and career goals.
  • Introduce students to career clusters, postsecondary education options, and workforce opportunities.
  • Incorporate employability skills including communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, financial literacy, and professionalism into daily instruction.
  • Utilize career interest inventories, technology, guest speakers, project-based learning, and career research activities to engage students.
  • Support students in developing academic and career plans aligned to future educational and career pathways.
  • Collaborate with school counselors, CTE staff, administrators, and community partners to provide meaningful career awareness experiences.
  • Maintain accurate student records and monitor student progress.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Teams (PLTs), district professional development, and school initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment to a minimum of 35 pounds;

  1. Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion;
  2. Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis;
  3. Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading;
  4. Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, inclement weather;
  5. Sitting, walking, standing are a regular requirement;
